Zinc citrate, also known as zinc citrate, is a drug used for zinc supplementation, such as for zinc deficiency-induced loss of appetite, anaemia, growth retardation, nutritional dwarfism, male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and enteropathic acral dermatitis, as well as for rheumatoid arthritis, intermittent claudication, hepatomegaly, thrush, chronic ulcers, conjunctivitis, and aphthous stomatitis, among other conditions.

Zinc citrate is used for the treatment of growth retardation, protein-energy malnutrition (malnutrition), anorexia, and xerophagia in children caused by zinc deficiency.

In oral care products, zinc citrate is commonly added to toothpaste and mouthwash at a concentration of 0.1%-2%. Its water solubility allows it to effectively disperse in the oral environment, exerting antimicrobial and anti-plaque effects.

In the dietary supplement field, common zinc citrate supplements contain 20-50 mg of zinc citrate per tablet or capsule (approximately 6.5-16 mg of elemental zinc). Studies indicate that the optimal time to supplement with zinc citrate is after meals to reduce potential gastrointestinal discomfort.

The European Union has clear regulations regarding the use of zinc citrate in cosmetics and oral care products, listing it in Annex III of the Cosmetics Regulation. This means that while its use is permitted, specific purity standards, maximum concentration limits, or product category restrictions must be adhered to to ensure safety.

Drug interactions of  Zinc Citrate.

1. Do not take this product with milk.

2. Do not use this product with aluminium salts, calcium salts, carbonates, tannins, etc. at the same time.

3. This product may reduce the effect of penicillamine, tetracycline drugs.

4. Drug interactions may occur if used concurrently with other drugs, please consult your physician or pharmacist for details.

Production Method of  Zinc Citrate.

10.5g (0.05mo1) citric acid, dissolved in 100mL distilled water, to which was added 6.1g (0.075mo1) zinc oxide in batches, at 60 ~ 80 ℃ in a water bath heating and stirring reaction for 2h; filtered while hot, filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure to 1/3 of the original volume, add 10mL of 95% ethanol, at room temperature. Standing crystallisation 6h, after filtration, washing, vacuum drying to get white powder zinc citrate products 14.8g, yield 96.2%, purity 99.6%
