Fluvoxamine maleate tablets are antidepressants, which act as 5-serotonin reuptake inhibitors on brain nerve cells, and can be used for the treatment of depression and related symptoms, and the treatment of obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Uses and functions of Fluvoxamine maleate.

Fluvoxamine maleate is a thin-film coated tablet, which appears white or near-white after removal of the coating. It regulates serotonin concentration through 5HT4-receptor antagonism and inhibition of selective serotonin reabsorption, so it can be effectively used in the treatment of depression and major depressive disorders.

Pharmacological action of Fluvoxamine maleate.

Fluvoxamine maleate is the only selective 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with a monocyclic structure, which exerts an antidepressant effect by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of 5-HT by the central nervous presynaptic membrane and increasing the effective concentration of 5-HT in the synaptic gap. The effect of this product on blocking 5-HT reuptake was stronger than fluoxetine, amitriptyline, imipramine and norimipramine, but weaker than paroxetine, sertraline and proitalopram. This product has almost no effect on the uptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, and has no affinity for α and β-epinephrine, M-cholinergic, histamine H1 and other receptors, so there are no adverse reactions associated with binding to these receptors, such as dry mouth, constipation, sedation, extrapyramidal syndrome, and orthostatic hypotension.
