Pancreatin Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Pancreatic enzymes are used for the replacement therapy of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency caused by various reasons (e.g. cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, post-pancreatic resection, post-gastrectomy, tumour-induced obstruction of pancreatic duct or common bile duct, chronic pancreatic inflammatory pain, elderly people, gastrointestinal, liver and gallbladder diseases).

Because all Hz receptor antagonists decrease intragastric acidity, it is hypothesised that ranitidine, famotidine and nizatidine also have this interaction with pancreatic enzymes.

A reduced dose of pancreatic enzymes may be required when combined. The activity of this drug is diminished or even inactivated by splitting in acidic solutions, so it is contraindicated to take it with acidic drugs. When this drug is combined with acarbose or miglitol, the efficacy of the latter is reduced, so concomitant use should be avoided.
