Clenbuterol is an asthma drug, also known as "leptin", which is neither a veterinary drug nor a feed additive, but an adrenal nerve stimulant.

Clenbuterol is well-absorbed and highly bioavailable in livestock and humans, so consumption of meat containing clenbuterol may result in human toxicity.

The use of clenbuterol may result in tolerance to repeated use and a diminished and shorter duration of bronchodilator effect. In addition, combination with catecholamines such as epinephrine and isoprenaline may lead to cardiac arrhythmias and therefore should not be used in combination.
