Povidone Iodine Usage and Synthesis.

Povidone iodine is a water-soluble compound with excellent performance and wide range of uses, commonly used in textile printing and dyeing, dyestuffs, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, beverages, binders, synthetic resins, detergents, pigments, coatings, electronic information materials, bioengineering materials, and water treatment and other fields. The aqueous solution of povidone iodine solution is acidic, with good disinfecting effect and low irritation, and is effective against most bacteria, fungi and viruses.

However, iodine preparation is prohibited to be used simultaneously with VC, alkaline, sodium thiosulfate and starch products, and too much organic matter in the water body will weaken the bactericidal effect of povidone iodine. Povidone iodine and glutaraldehyde are different in their bactericidal effects, and experiments have shown that 20% glutaraldehyde has a disinfection time limit of 10 hours, while 10% povidone iodine has a disinfection time limit of only 6 hours.
