Emodin Usage and Synthesis.

The physiological activity of rhodopsin determines that it can be used not only for medical treatment, but also for health care and daily chemicals, such as some people use it in hair care and skin care products, and some people compile it into natural pigments. Abroad, people use it as a light laxative.

Uses of Emodin.

Rhodopsin is a natural compound extracted from rhubarb, thuja and other herbs, with a variety of pharmacological effects including anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anti-tumour. Rhubarbine is mainly used as a refractory, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antiseptic, anticarcinogenic (chest), antiulcer, antiviral, diarrhoeal, gonadotropic, immunosuppressive, insecticide, laxative, antispasmodic, and haemostatic agent.

Pharmacological Effect of Emodin.

Although rhodopsin can be used as a laxative, it has laxative activity, but because it is easily oxidised and destroyed in vivo, the laxative effect is actually very weak, if it is combined with sugar to form glycosides, then it can play a laxative effect.

Rhodopsin-1-O-β-D-glucoside and rhodopsin-8-O-β-D-glucoside are the glycosides of rhodopsin combined with glucose, and the two of them are only combined in different positions, and exist in rhubarb at the same time. It also has antibacterial, antitussive, antitumour and hypotensive effects.

Rhodopsin is widely found in plant-based laxatives such as the rhizomes of rhubarb, the bark and root bark of Salvia divinorum, and the seeds of cassia. From the rhizomes of rhubarb, rhubarbsin can be extracted. Rhubarb can also be prepared by synthesis, e.g. from 2-methylanthraquinone, or from 3,5-dinitrobenzoic anhydride and m-cresol.
