II. Decoding the Cost Structure of Health Supplement

OEM Manufacturing Many beginners, when inquiring about prices, often only focus on "how much per bottle," easily falling into the low-price trap. A transparent health supplement OEM quote typically consists of the following four core components:

    1. Formula and Raw Material Costs (The Core Component)

Common Raw Materials: Such as basic vitamins and common plant powders, with relatively low costs.

Patented/Imported Raw Materials: Such as certain internationally patented probiotic strains and imported collagen peptides. Using these raw materials significantly increases costs, but patent labels can be added to the product packaging, resulting in a higher premium.

    2. Processing Service Fees (OEM/ODM Fees)

This is the pure processing fee charged by the factory, including:

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer): The client provides their own formula and raw materials; the factory only charges processing fees (setup fees) for sampling, mixing, filling, and packaging.

ODM (Original Design Manufacturer): The factory provides one-stop services such as formula development, raw material procurement, and compliance review, which includes a certain R&D service fee.

    3. Packaging and Printing Costs

The visual appeal of health supplements often determines conversion rates. Packaging costs include inner packaging (bottles, aluminum foil, PVC, strip wrapping film) and outer packaging (gift boxes, cardboard boxes, instruction manuals, anti-counterfeiting labels).

Note: The minimum order quantity (MOQ) for packaging materials is often higher than that for the food itself (e.g., cardboard boxes typically require a minimum order of 3000). If your initial production run is only 1000 bottles, you may need to pay for 3000 cardboard boxes upfront, with the remaining packaging materials temporarily stored in the factory warehouse.

    4. Registration, Testing, and Logistics Costs

Qualification Registration: Ordinary food/general health products require enterprise standard registration or third-party testing reports (e.g., heavy metal and microbial testing). Applying for a "blue hat" (special approval number for health food) requires significant application costs and several years.

Logistics and Transportation: Logistics costs from the factory to your warehouse.

III. Health Supplement Production Cycle and Process (How Long Does It Take from 0 to Shipment?)

A brand new health supplement typically goes through the following process from concept to finished product. Generally, the cycle for a new product in an initial collaboration is approximately 30-45 days, while repeat orders from existing clients can be shortened to 15-20 days.

Step 1: Requirements and Sampling (5-7 days)

Define the taste, efficacy, and dosage form. The factory develops samples based on the requirements and sends them to the client for tasting/trial confirmation.

Step 2: Compliance Review and Contract (3-5 days)

Review the outer packaging label text to ensure compliance with the Food Safety Law and Advertising Law, avoiding illegal or exaggerated claims. Sign the contract and pay a deposit.

Step 3: Packaging Material Procurement and Printing (15-20 days)

This is the most time-consuming step. The printing and production of bottles and packaging boxes usually takes more than two weeks. The length of the production cycle often depends on the speed at which packaging materials arrive at the factory.

Step 4: Factory Order Scheduling and Production (10-15 days)

Once all raw materials and packaging materials arrive, the factory enters a cleanroom to begin feeding, mixing, tableting/filling, sealing, and boxing.

Step 5: Quality Inspection and Shipping (3-5 days)

After mass production is completed, the factory conducts a final round of microbiological and physicochemical tests, issues a qualified inspection report, and arranges logistics for shipment.
