Product details

Tobramycin powder Usage and Synthesis.

It can be used to treat a variety of serious infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other G-bacilli, but is generally not used as a drug of choice. Tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic with less clinical resistance, is used as a first-line treatment for early pulmonary infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Tobramycin Powder

Uses of Tobramycin.

Tobramycin is a monofactorial antibiotic containing approximately 10% nebramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic complex produced by Streptomyces Tenebrarius. Antibacterial. Similar to gentamicin broad-spectrum antibiotics, high activity against gram-negative bacilli.

Tobramycin

Pharmacological action of Tobramycin.

The antibacterial action of tobramycin is similar to gentamicin and fusomycin, it is a broad spectrum antibiotic, but it has no effect on fungi. In gram-negative bacteria, the effect of tobramycin on P. aeruginosa was stronger than that of other aminoglycosides. Some strains of P. aeruginosa resistant to gentamicin were still sensitive to tobramycin. The minimum inhibitory concentration of this product against most of the pseudomonas aeruginosa is less than 1.5μg/ml, and the minimum inhibitory concentration against most of the Escherichia coli, pneumococcus, Enterobacter mirabilis, Proteus mirabilis, citrobacter and acinetobacter is less than 1.5μg/ml.

The sensitivity of Staphylococcus to tobramycin and gentamicin is roughly the same, and the minimum inhibitory concentration for most Staphylococcus aureus is less than 1μg/ml. The effect of this product on enterococcus is very weak, and its minimum inhibitory concentration is ≥25μg/ml. The minimum inhibitory concentration for pneumococcus, green streptococcus and streptococcus pyogenes was often greater than 25μg/ml. There was incomplete cross-resistance between tobramycin and gentamicin.

Professional FAQs

Q: How does tobramycin compare to amikacin?
A: Tobramycin is more potent against Pseudomonas but has narrower Gram-positive coverage than amikacin.

Q: Optimal duration for CF inhalation therapy?
A: 28 days on/28 days off is standard to prevent resistance.

Q: Managing ototoxicity risk?
A: Peak levels <10 μg/mL and hydration are crucial.

Q: Pregnancy category?
A: Category D (risk to fetal hearing/renal systems).

Q: Ophthalmic use in contacts wearers?
A: Discontinue lenses during treatment.
