1. Gardenia water and alcohol extract can reduce the content of bilirubin in blood of rabbits ligation common bile duct, and seems to promote bilirubin metabolism. (3) Effects on gastric secretion and gastrointestinal motility: the gastric secretion of rats with pyloric ligation can be reduced by the administration of geniposin in the duodenum. The spontaneous gastric peristalsis and gastric constriction induced by pilocarpine can be inhibited by intravenous administration of deoxygardenoside or geniporin. Gardenia alcohol extract can stimulate small intestine movement in rats and rabbits.

2. Effects on the central nervous system Intraperitoneal injection of gardenia alcohol extract in mice can reduce spontaneous activity, has sedative effect, and has a synergistic effect with cyclohexanobarbital sodium, can prolong sleep time and reduce body temperature. The water extract of gardenia gardeniae and deoxygardenioside geniposide can inhibit the writhing reaction of acetic acid in mice, so it is considered to have analgesic effect.
