Sodium hexametaphosphate is used as high efficient water softener for power station, boiler water for rolling stock, auxiliary agent for detergent, agent for controlling or preventing corrosion, cement hardening accelerator, streptomycin purifier, cleaning agent for fibre industry, bleaching and dyeing industry.
It is used as sedative in medicine, preservative, stabiliser and juice precipitant in food industry.
In petroleum industry, it is used for antirust of drilling pipe and controlling the viscosity of mud when drilling oil. In fabric dyeing and printing, tanning, papermaking, colour film, soil analysis, radiochemistry and analytical chemistry and other departments also have certain uses.
China GB2760-1996 stipulates that sodium hexametaphosphate is permitted to be used as a food additive (water retention agent), which can be used in canned food, fruit juice drinks, dairy products, soy products; it is also used as a dispersant for dyes and a water treatment agent.

Neutralise the phosphoric acid with soda ash, control the Ph value between 4.0 and 4.4, that is, get the sodium dihydrogen phosphate solution; send this solution into the polymerisation furnace, heat and dehydrate at 700℃ for 15-30min, that is, get the molten sodium hexametaphosphate; then add water to cool the film sharply and crush the product.NaH2PO4→(NaPO3)6+6H2O
