Cobalt Chloride Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Used as an analytical reagent and ammonia absorbent, co-reduced in the gas phase with other metal halides under the action of hydrogen to form finely divided metal intermediates, which can be used as structural materials or compounds with useful thermoelectric, magnetic and oxidation-resistant properties.

Uses of Cobalt Chloride.

Cobalt chloride is mainly used in the production of cobalt oxide and cobalt metal, as alloy materials for electronic materials, a small amount of instrumentation used in the production of barometers, hydrometers, wet and dry indicators. It is used as colouring agent in ceramic industry. It is used as paint drying agent in paint industry. It is used to configure compound feed in animal husbandry industry. Used as beer foam stabiliser in brewing industry.

Used in the defence industry to manufacture gas masks. Used as catalyst in chemical reaction. Fractionation chemistry for droplet analysis of zinc, haploid breeding, in addition, also used in the manufacture of invisible ink, cobalt chloride test paper (in the dry is blue, when wet to pink), colour-changing silica gel and so on. Also used as ammonia absorber.

Preparation of action of Cobalt Chloride.

Cobalt chloride is mainly prepared by metal cobalt method and cobalt-containing waste method. Metal cobalt method is obtained by reacting metal cobalt with hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, through purification, precipitation, filtration, evaporation, crystallisation and separation. Cobalt-containing waste method is to react cobalt-containing waste with hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid, transformed with sodium sulphide and obtained by washing, oxidising, separating, acidifying and washing, refining and concentrating. A preparation method of superior pure cobalt chloride has the following steps:

(1) metal cobalt and hydrochloric acid reaction: metal cobalt placed in a glass beaker, and add hydrochloric acid moved to the furnace for heating reaction, reaction temperature control at 70 ℃ -75 ℃, and the appropriate amount of addition of nitric acid, to promote the dissolution of metal cobalt completely, the amount of addition to control in the amount of hydrochloric acid 15-20%, to be completely dissolved in metal cobalt, the temperature of the furnace will be raised to the solution boiled, add hydrochloric acid, evaporation of the appearance of white gas Until, stop heating, stop adding hydrochloric acid, cobalt chloride solution;

(2) in addition to impurities: the cobalt chloride solution of step (1) to add hydrogen peroxide oxidation to remove iron, and this solution with ammonia to pH 8-9, to ensure that the precipitation of iron hydroxide is complete, stand still for 3-5 hours, filtration, to get the solution;

(3) the production of superior pure cobalt chloride: the solution obtained in step (2) is poured into a glass beaker, hydrochloric acid to adjust pH3-3.5, concentration, concentration temperature 170-190 ℃, after concentration to 38-40 ゜ Be, stop heating, cooling crystallisation, centrifugal separation to obtain superior pure cobalt chloride crystals.

The flask containing the product is immediately transferred to a vacuum desiccator with potassium hydroxide and stored there for at least 12h to remove the residual sulfoxide. Finally, the product is transferred to a suitable container in a dry operating box and sealed.
