Catalase Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Catalase is used in the food industry to remove hydrogen peroxide from milk used to make cheese. Catalase is also used in food packaging to prevent oxidation of food. In the textile industry, catalase is used to remove hydrogen peroxide from textiles to ensure that the finished product is free of peroxide.

It is also used in the cleaning of contact lenses: the lenses are soaked in a detergent containing hydrogen peroxide, and then hydrogen peroxidase is used to remove any residual hydrogen peroxide before use.

Hydrogen peroxidase is used in the cosmetic industry: some facial treatments incorporate the enzyme and hydrogen peroxide with the aim of increasing the amount of cellular oxygen in the upper layers of the epidermis. Catalase is also often used in the laboratory as a tool to understand the effect of enzymes on reaction rates.

Uses of Catalase.

An oxidoreductase that oxidises hydrogen peroxide to oxygen while simultaneously reducing another molecule of hydrogen peroxide to water. As a natural antioxidant, it can be used to study the role of reactive oxygen species on gene expression and apoptosis. It has also been used to protect proteins, lipids and nucleic acids from oxidative damage.

It is used in biochemical research, food preservation, and sterilisation and desugarisation of milk. It is commonly used clinically as a diagnostic enzyme to determine glucose levels.

Enzyme preparations. Mainly used in the production of cheese, milk and egg products, etc., in order to eliminate by ultraviolet irradiation when the production of hydrogen peroxide caused by the peculiar smell; can also be used as a loosening agent in the manufacture of bread. Maximum dosage in milk is 20mg/kg.
