Baicalin powder Usage and Synthesis.

Baicalin is a kind of flavonoid compound extracted from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis, which is a light yellow powder with bitter taste at room temperature. It is insoluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, slightly soluble in chloroform and nitrobenzene, almost insoluble in water, soluble in hot acetic acid.

It shows green colour when met with ferric chloride and produces orange precipitate when met with lead acetate. When dissolved in alkali and ammonia, it shows yellow colour at the beginning, and soon turns into black brown colour.

Uses of Baicalin powder.

Has significant biological activity, with antibacterial, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol, anti-thrombosis, relief of asthma, laxative detoxification, haemostasis, foetal protection, anti-metamorphosis and antispasmodic effects, but also for the mammalian liver salivary enzyme specific inhibitors, with the regulation of certain diseases, but also has a strong anti-cancer response to physiological efficacy.

Mainly used in the treatment of dampness, summer temperature, chest congestion and vomiting, damp-heat plagued, diarrhoea and jaundice, lung fever and cough, high fever and thirst, blood fever and vomiting, carbuncle, swelling and sores, foetal restlessness.

In addition, baicalin can absorb ultraviolet rays, remove oxygen free radicals and inhibit the generation of melanin, which is a good functional cosmetic raw materials.

Freely soluble in N,N-dimethylformamide, pyridine, soluble in alkaline solutions such as sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, but unstable in alkaline solution, gradually turning dark brown, slightly soluble in hot glacial acetic acid, insoluble in formic acid, acetic acid, acetone, almost insoluble in water, ether, benzene, chloroform and so on.

Derived from this product is extracted from the dried root of Scutellariabaicalensis Georgi, Scutellaria baicalensis, Labiatae, Dicotyledonous plant.
