GLP-1 acts on the β-cells of the pancreatic islets in a glucose-dependent manner, stimulating an increase in insulin synthesis and secretion, and can stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of the β-cells of the pancreatic islets, inhibit apoptosis, and increase the number of B-cells of the pancreatic islets.
