Sulfanilamide is a systemic long-acting sulfonamide, a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. The antibacterial mechanism of sulfadoxine is similar to that of other sulfonamides, which can compete with amino benzoic acid (PABA) to act on dihydrofolate synthetase in the bacterial body, thus preventing PABA from synthesising the tetrahydrofolate required by bacteria as raw material, and then inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial proteins and acting as an antibacterial agent.

Preparation of Bulk sulfadimoxine Powder.
(1), causing methyl methoxyacetate and excess diethyl oxalate to react to form methyl 3-methoxy-2-oxosuccinic acid methyl ester, and decarbonylating to obtain methyl 2-methoxy-malonate;
(2), reacting methyl ethyl 2-methoxy-malonate with formamide to form a cyclic compound;
(3), so that the cyclic compound reacts with trichlorophosphorus to form chloride;
(4), condensation reaction;
(5), the methyl oxidation reaction, wherein: controlling the resulting cyclic compound in the form of anhydrous hydroxyl sodium salt in step (2) makes it possible not to use N,N-dimethylaniline as a catalyst in step (3), which makes it possible to reduce the cost as well as to improve the quality of the chloride, and ultimately to improve the quality of the circumscribed sulfonamide.
