Elastin Powder Usage and Synthesis.

Elastin is the main component of elastic fibres in the epidermis. The peptide chain of elastin contains more than 713 amino acid residues. Unlike collagen and keratin, elastin does not have a continuous repeating periodic structure throughout the peptide chain, but has alternating hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments. The formation of chaotropins and open-chain chaotropins from lysyl oxide is a cross-linking structure unique to elastin. These cross-linking structures combine more than two team dimensions. The secondary exostructures of elastin may be a combination of random in-curve and titled, and elasticity is the most important physicochemical property of elastin.

Constitute of Elastin.

Elastin contains up to 95% hydrophobic amino acids, many of which are glycine, proline and leucine. Elastin is initially synthesised as a water-soluble monomer with a molecular weight of 70,000 and is called protoelastin (tropoelastin), which is partially hydroxylated from proline to produce hydroxyproline during modification. After protoelastin is secreted from the cell, some of the lysine is oxidised by oxidase-catalysed oxidation to an aldehyde group and condensed with the ε-amino group of another lysine to form a pyridine derivative called streptavidin.

Pure elastin is light yellow and blue (under UV light). Resistant to acid and alkali hydrolysis. insoluble in many hydrogen-bond breaking solvents below 100°C, but undergoes solubilisation. Insoluble in phenolic solvents. It is insoluble in any solvent except peptide bond breaking agents. Elastin is a polymeric substance with rubbery ductility and low elastic modulus in the presence of water.
